What type of lighting should you use in your channel letter sign, LED or neon?
Both have very distinct qualities.
LED, or Light Emitting Diode, is a compact low voltage lighting system. Many companies are switching to LED’s for the power savings as well as the lower maintenance cost. LED’s in channel letters offer the best long term cost savings and the greatest flexibility in small letters.
Neon is a glass tube filled with neon or argon gas to provide a rainbow of colors. Nothing compares to the look of an exposed neon sign. Though neon uses more power than LED’s, the brightness of neon is still the very best. Neon is limited in size and cold weather can be a factor if the sign installation is done improperly.
Most of the time the LED and neon are covered up by a white or red plastic sign face, so the classy look of neon is not realized.
Many property managers are requiring LED channel letters in their leases. Free consultation available.

So you want to buy a lit sign?
But what kind, how big? Channel letters or cabinet? LED or florescent?
All of these are great questions and can be quickly answered by a local sign contractor. Make sure you find one that has the experience and knowledge to work with you, your landlord and the city of your new business.
Buying a sign can be a bit scary, but the right lighted sign can actually make you money. Try to maximize the sign size the city will allow. Signs in Minnesota, especially the twin cities will require a Licensed Sign contractor.
