Selling from your business card

February 21, 2009

Can you sell stuff from your business card? Yes, if people keep it.

I get tons of business cards every week while running around in Minnesota. Through my BNI groups and other methods. So many times, almost all the time, they are white rectangles with black times roman text. BLEGHHH!

Do you want to know how to get someone to hang onto your card longer? Get a card that makes someone say “cool!”

Have you ever heard of color? In today’s world you can get full color printer fairly cheaply. Matter of fact, I can tell if your really cheap, I will look at your business card. Is it plain white on paper you can almost see through and does it have perforations on the edges? Can you believe that some people think they are saving money by printing their own cards on a desktop printer?!  If this fits you please know, we can tell. It doesn’t reflect well on you.

Sometimes your first impression to a potential client is your business card. Don’t blow it with perforated edges! Trying to close a giant deal? Yeah you will close it right down if you show up with perforated edges. That just tells me you can’t handle the big job.

There is this one guy who can make you super hero cards. Those are cool!

You don’t have to spend tons of money for a nice card. Just spend a little time thinking about your card and how you would feel if you received it.

Get your cards out of the pile, and get them into your clients card book. Make them interesting.

Banners, what is it good for?

February 17, 2009

Banners, why would your business benefit with a banner? Don’t they look cheap?

They do look cheap, or can. The factor that helps us to understand why banners work is change. People get used to seeing the same thing over and over again in their daily drive. When you change something at your store, it creates a new awareness of the change.

This change, or addition of banners, can sometimes be enough to increase traffic during a special event. The thing to be aware of is that the city limits the use of temporary signs like banners & flags.

If you are wondering about how to effect your short term sales, a banner is a real answer.

Trade show displays

February 12, 2009

Trade show season is upon us. Are you ready?

In Minnesota, we have several opportunities for trade shows. Have you started to think about your trade show signage and marketing ideas?

Not only do you have the main sign display, you also have the SWAG. What is SWAG? You know, Stuff We All Get. Those give away items that draw people to your booth allowing you to engage them in conversation.

Pens, jackets, key chains, the list is endless.

How are you going to engage those attendees? You need to attract them with your signage, and you need to draw them in with your swag, and the swag needs to be kept and used.

Let us help you design a trade show campaign that will bring you sales, dollars, clients, leads or whatever your looking for.

Ask for the sale

February 9, 2009

How do you increase the number of sales in a given period? Simple, ask for the sale.

The main reason someone doesn’t buy from you is simply because you don’t ask for the sale. We don’t close the deal. We don’t put them over the top. We don’t drop the pen in their lap. In other words; you don’t ask.

You spent money to get folks into your Minnesota store with a cool wall or pylon sign

Once they are in your store, they have to buy. This is where POP (point of purchase) displays will help seal the deal. Nothing can compete with a well trained sales staff that is ready to answer questions and to make a sale. Short of that you need targeted signage to help your clients to buy.

People hate to be sold, but they love to buy. My friend Jeff Gitomer told me that. Why not help them to buy from you?

Signs that promote

February 7, 2009

Promotional products are cheap signs.

Signs show up everywhere and you can control where they show up in a very inexpensive way. Your business should have its name on the move with signs printed on everything.

My company also provides a complete line of promotional products for my clients. One of those items is a custom coin. We use this coin as our business card. When asked for our “card” we hand over the coin and people will stare at it. They will hang onto it forever. One guy keeps my “card” in his pocket all the time.

I like to drop it on a clients desk when I cold call him. They always grab it and say something like “that’s cool!” People hang onto cool.

Other types of promotional products are of course pens, calendars and hats, but have you ever been given a solid metal coin? Probably not.

I like to call my coins “My Pocket Signs”.

You see, signs come in all shapes andcoin sizes. If you can dream it, we can sign it.

This is a great and unique way to promote your business. Choose an item that reflects you and your business. Choose an advertising specialty that people will want to receive and hang on to. Most of all, have fun.

Signs are Marketing #2

February 3, 2009

Marketing ideas for your business

Marketing your business means money. Money is not evil. It buys us the things we need. With a little extra money, you can be benevolent. Helping others is a great use of money. But you have to get some first. That is where the success of your business comes in. In my earlier blog, I wrote about just a few ideas. Today we will look at some other creative ideas.

Planes, trains and automobiles (also trucks & vans)
Put a sign on anything that moves that you own. If you have 1 car or a fleet of trucks, GET YOUR NAME ON IT! A vehicle sign is easy and cheap advertising. An owner of a company in Elk River, MN was receiving calls the same day that we put vinyl lettering on his van. It works.

Wrapping a vehicle with signs are just added visibility for your company. Bus billboards, signs inside and outside of the mass transit system or light rail in your city.

Networking:
Not a sign, but another great way to market your business. I belong to an organization called BNI Minnesota and it brings in multiple thousands of dollars annually for my business. It is based on the premise that each person knows well about 250 people. (the average number that shows up to your wedding or funeral) You get to know people in your chapter and the next thing you know, they will refer to you the people in their contact list. I started getting referrals almost immediately.

We could go on about the many ways to promote your business, such as: balloons, banners, portable signs, flags, sidewalk signs, yard signs, window lettering the list can go on forever.

In this market, you need to keep your name in front of your customers. If you have to cut, do it somewhere else. Signs and advertising is the one expense that can make you money.
